I am wondering if you would like to share with your students some letters and diaries from soldiers who served at Fort Wadsworth (then called Fort Richmond) during the civil war. Here is a link to Lester Hildreth's diary. He arrived at Fort Richmond on August 2, 1863. The diary describes daily life at the fort. Lester does bad things in his diary (comes back late after being on leave) and does not seem to understand why he is being punished. </div> <a href="redir.aspx?C=SNE3c6ZeMUiLIKC2jHzIsVji7NgridEIq7pVNbQSxBBBwybhlXaxFyy80m516zuEh1plP3fxS90.&URL=http%3a%2f%2ffiles.usgwarchives.net%2fmi%2fkent%2fdiary%2fh43601.txt" target="_blank">http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/kent/diary/h43601.txt</a> <div>We also have letters from another young soldier Dalton Cooper to his sister which I can send you. It might be interesting for the students to try and find some of the places mentioned in the diaries and letters or try and recreate some of the scenes.</div> <div>Dan<br clear="all"> <div><br> </div> -- <br> Dan Meharg<br> Education Specialist/Park Ranger<br> Gateway National Recreation Area<br> 862-812-1716 </div> </div> </body> </html>
